Trinidad and Tobago North Coast Marine Area and East Coast Marine Area Bidding Round
The Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries, the government agency in Trinidad and Tobago, announced that it is offering a total of five offshore blocks. The total acreage offered was 750 square kilometres in Block 4(b), 685 square kilometres in Block 5(d), 2,094 square kilometres in Block North Coast Marine Areas 3, 1,779 square kilometres in Block North Coast Marine Areas 4 and 2,311 square kilometres North Coast Marine Areas 5. These blocks are located in the East Coast Marine Area and North Coast Marine Area. The bid round 2008 road show will occur from 29 June to 3 July 2008.

The block 4(b) is located in eastern offshore Trinidad, just east of the Dolphin and Starfish producing fields. It is close to existing pipeline infrastructure. Block 4(b) was offered during the competitive bid round in 1995 and was awarded to Conoco Philips who relinquished the block in 1999. During this period Las Cuevas-1 was drilled and several prospects were identified.
The block 5(d) is located in eastern offshore Trinidad, just north of the Manakin gas discovery and east of the Corallita and Lantana discoveries. Generally there are three structural trends; a Northern, Central and Southern trend each with different play types. The area is dissected by NW-SE trending faults. Stratigraphically the area exhibits characteristics of an upper slope environment and previous drilling has targeted complex channel fill facies.
The NCMA 3 Block is located in shallow water (100-300 feet) off the north coast of Trinidad. Sedimentation occurred in the Miocene – Pliocene, depositing shelfal sands, which are currently under production in the Hibiscus, Chaconia and Poinsettia Fields, located to the north of the block. Two wells were drilled in this block; HH6-1, which tested gas and Alma 1.
The NCMA 4 Block is located in shallow water (100-300 feet) off the northwest coast of Tobago. Sedimentation occurred in the Miocene – Pliocene, depositing shelfal sands, which are currently under production in the Hibiscus, Chaconia and Poinsettia Fields, located to the south-west of the block. Five wells were drilled in this block including LL 9-1, which discovered the Iris Field and KK6-1, which discovered the Orchid Field.
The NCMA 5 Block is located in shallow water (100-350 feet) off the north-east coast of Trinidad. Sedimentation occurred in the Miocene – Pliocene, depositing shelfal sands, which are currently under production in the Hibiscus, Chaconia and Poinsettia Fields, located to the northeast of the block. Three wells were drilled in this block; HH9-1, Alice 1 and Betty 1.
