Jordan 2009
Licensing Round
The Natural Resources Authority of
Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan (Natural Resources Authority
www.nra.gov.jo) has announced
that a 2009
Licensing Round will open from the 1 March 2009, with two licence areas
available for bid under a production sharing agreement (PSA) to explore and
exploit oil and gas. The
Northern
Highlands licence covers 7,454 square kilometres in northern
Jordan and the
Jafr and Central Jordan licence covers
19,156 square kilometres in central
Jordan. The
Licensing Round was expected to close on 31 May 2009 but the National
Resources Authority (NRA) has extended the licensing round to 2 July 2009.
Both blocks are situated within the Tabuk Basin
which contains the Risha gas and the Hamzah oil fields in the east of Jordan and the Kahf condensate field in Saudi Arabia,
but the basin can be considered relatively under-explored in terms of its
hydrocarbon potential.

The initial period of exploration on
the licences will be conducted in two phases and is not to exceed a total of
six years, with a minimum relinquishment of 30% at the end of the first
phase. The licensee will then have
the option to enter into a development phase of 25 years following any
commercial discoveries, with further extensions of five years for oil and 10
years for gas negotiable. A data
package is available from the Natural Resources Authority at a cost of USD
5,000.

The Natural Resources Authority is
offering this onshore region of the Tabuk Basin covering an area of 7,454 square kilometres in
