Second Indonesia Petroleum Bidding Round

Indonesia's Directorate General of Oil and Gas (MIGAS) launched the Second Indonesia Petroleum Bidding Round of 2008 on 17 October 2008. For this round, a total of 31 blocks are being offered with 16 blocks under Regular Tender and 15 blocks under Direct Proposal Tender.

The blocks offered are as follows:

Bid documents have been available from 10 November 2008. The bid deadline for direct proposal tenders is 5 January 2009 and for regular tenders is 9 March 2009.

On the 31 October 2008, MIGAS awarded oil and gas exploration rights on nine blocks to several international and local companies as below:-

Most of the blocks awarded were regular tenders from the 2007 Petroleum bidding round, with the exception of Gunting block, from year 2006. The total exploration commitments for the first three years are reported to be close to USD 465 million. Out of the nine blocks, Semai V was the most contested with six oil firms, including Total E&P Indonesia, PT Pertamina and Hess Corporation, bidding for it. Hess Corporation won the licence, with a signature bonus of USD 40 million and investment commitment of USD 143 million.
