Algerian Second National and International Licensing Round launched

On 29 July 2009 the Ministry of Energy and Mines, National Agency for Hydrocarbon Resources Valorisation (ALNAFT) announced the launch of the latest national and international licensing round.  Information about the Second National and International Licensing Round is published by the Ministry of Energy and Mining (www.mem-algeria.org).  Oil companies which are pre-qualified by ALNAFT, as either an operator or investor, are invited to express their interest to participate in this round.  Pre-qualified candidates are invited to bid for acreage across 10 perimeters distributed throughout sedimentary basins across the country, which are said to be offering high potential.  A number of these perimeters are currently operated by Sonatrach SPA.

A general presentation of technical data and contractual terms will take place at the Sheraton Hotel in Algiers on 27 July 2009.  Data room sessions will then be available from 15 August to 22 October 2009.  The deadline for bids is 20 December 2009 and contract signing is expected in January 2010.

This is the second licensing round run by the regulatory authority, ALNAFT, and the eighth international round to take place.  It follows the Seventh International Round in 2008 which resulted in four awards to companies including existing players Eni and BG, and new entrants E.ON Ruhrgas and GazProm.
